The State of Chile has produced a Emission Standard for the Regulation of Light Pollution which seeks to protect the astronomical quality of the skies of Regions II, III and IV, hoping to preserve the current astronomical quality of the skies in these areas and avoid future deterioration. This Standard came into effect on October 1, 1999 (updated in 2012), establishing a legal framework for the protection of sky quality, in the context of environmental legislation. If you want to know this legal instrument in detail, you can download the Lighting Standard (DS 43/2012) published in the Official Gazette of Chile.
Examples of light pollution
Below you can see some examples of light pollution, in the case of poorly oriented luminaires, poor design of these and other elements that influence excessive urban glare (all photographs have been taken in Chile).
